Day 0: Arrival Day - Arusha or Moshi

Activity: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Meet your guide for a detailed briefing, gear check, and final trek preparations. Enjoy dinner and rest before your adventure begins.

Summit Safari Lodge

Day 1: Londorosi Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)

  • Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Camp
  • Elevation: 2,100m to 2,820m
  • Distance: 7 km
  • Altitude Gained: 720m

Activity: Drive to Londorosi Gate for registration, then start trekking through the dense rainforest. Spot colobus monkeys and rich vegetation before reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp for dinner and overnight

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

  • Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp
  • Elevation: 2,820m to 3,850m
  • Distance: 16 km
  • Altitude Gained: 1,030m

Activity: The trek continues through the moorland zone, offering stunning views of Shira Plateau. Pass Shira 1 Camp before reaching Shira 2 Camp, where you’ll rest and acclimatize.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) to Barranco Camp (3,950m) via Lava Tower (4,630m)

  • Accommodation: Barranco Camp
  • Elevation: 3,850m to 3,950m via 4,630m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Altitude Gained: 780m (ascent), 680m (descent)

 

Activity: Trek towards Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This trek follows the “climb high, sleep low” principle, improving altitude adaptation.

Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Barafu Camp (4,673m) via Karanga Camp (4,035m)

  • Accommodation: Barafu Camp
  • Elevation: 3,950m to 4,035m (Karanga) to 4,673m
  • Distance: 9 km
  • Altitude Gained: 723m

 

Activity: Start with an exciting climb up the Barranco Wall, followed by a trek to Karanga Camp. After lunch, continue to Barafu Camp, where you’ll rest before the midnight summit push.

Day 5: Barafu Camp (4,673m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

  • Accommodation: Mweka Camp
  • Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (summit) to 3,100m
  • Distance: 17 km
  • Altitude Gained: 1,222m (ascent), 2,795m (descent)

 

Activity: The summit push begins at midnight, climbing through icy terrain to Stella Point, then reaching Uhuru Peak for an unforgettable sunrise. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Mweka Camp for rest.

Day 6: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Return to Moshi/Arusha

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi/Arusha
  • Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Altitude Lost: 1,460m

 

Activity: The final trek leads through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha to celebrate your achievement.
